Advancing with Watercolor: Immersion "Autumn Path" - Gradation
IMMERSION - WEEK 2
We developed a new composition at the end of last week which led to a great variation of the subject the Path simply by looking at it slightly differently. This evolved from the first project, after I had completed the painting and looked again at my image and became inspired by the shadow across the road. This week I will look at the subject again and think about the shapes, perhaps strapping back and looking at the trees slightly differently. I will also get a little deeper into the use of a gradient. A type of transition that has many uses.
Probably you noticed that I was making some departures from the original photos. I chose a photo in fact that was not particularly inspiring so that would push me into edit mode. This week we will look to borrow from some other photos qualities that we can bring to our painting of the path. The first is related to the shapes of the trees. Finding shapes that you like is one of the very first parts of composition. Secondly will look further at gradation and how this can effect the light and mood of our painting. Lastly we will incorporate these things into a painting. In the last part of class we will have a look at some of the paintings posted on cluster.
