Week 2 - The Coffee Shop

Lets review last week - we looked at a simple view of a large window with light flooding in. Since painting this exercise I have painted the image and a similar image again with a thought to a deeper expression. You can find the video of these on YouTube here. Why did I continue with this subject - I think you will discover why if you watch. Please be sure to I would like to introduce a couple of new components to our visual voacabulary related to the interior and working with edges. The first I believe is an exercise in working with edges. We will use a simple image source and render this image in four different ways using four types of edges. The main feature in our painting is a window at a local coffee shop with tables and chairs, artwork on the wall and eventually people at the table

Finally windows can really spice up the whole Interior - architects and interior designers know this and give careful thought to placement and size. For us the window shapes the natural light flooding in -  and that is the basis of this weeks work

Edges

The way in which we use edges requires a different condition of the paper - for example dry paper, damp paper, wet paper, and paper which is partial dry or wet paper- spot wetting is a better term…

The brush requires a different condition also - that is a full wet brush, a brush that damp and a brush that is quite dry…when we put these together the watercolor becomes a real symphony in edges. We struggle with the wet paper and brush - but the result of this technique nique is quite special

In our exercise we will have 4 panels in which we can exercise these various techniques
