Advancing with Watercolor: Immersion - "The Water's Edge" Edge Control
WORKING WITH EDGES
This week we venture out to find a subject and get deeper into using edges in watercolor. The exercise is designed around how we use edges and the scene beside the muddy river gives us an opportunity to invest ourself into the technical side of watercolor as it relates to the mood and intent we are looking to create.
Hard edges - are useful in creating hard light a bright dramatic mood texture and focus in a painting
Soft edges are useful in creating atmosphere a soft mood and the passive parts of our painting
rough edges are useful for in creating texture , sparkle, glare and a strong light
broken or lost and found edges are also useful
We will get to know our subject this week through a single color and a concentration on edges…in each work we will handle the background slightly differently. Through coming to know how edges produce a different feeling we can make a more thoughtful choice as we develop our painting. Edges directly effect the emotion we feel in any one painting.
Our image source can give us useful information, but we process this information through our heart and soul. Then, to realize their potential, we need to think about technique. Furthermore, a watercolor edge equals a different technique or approach so some planning and thought before we start
In this lesson will return to the waters edge as a subject and build our skill using watercolor to create a variety of edges
